Regulations and what they mean

The economics of automatic lubrication on a mobile machine cannot be calculated from grease consumption — it is too small. It pays through downtime, bearing replacements and resale value.

The calculation that actually carries

For a machine working in the field the costliest item is not the part but the standing time on site: travel, recovery, waiting, downstream work stopped. Avoid one such incident a year and the system is usually paid for. The second item is overlooked: escaped grease is paid for and useless — over a fleet a real sum, and a disposal issue on top.

To clarify before investing: number of points and demand per point; the lowest start-up temperature; the available energy (12 or 24 V on-board, or the hydraulic circuit); and the existing grease with its thickener type, which decides miscibility at the changeover.
