Regulations and what they mean
A lubrication system in a food plant only becomes an advantage once its condition can be proven. That takes no elaborate software, just a fixed inspection rhythm — DropsA Deutschland provides it as a maintenance-plan checklist to download (PDF, German).
| Interval | Checks |
|---|---|
| weekly | visual check for leaks, hoses and fittings · check the level and record refills · clean oil and grease traces in the process area · check messages and trends on the HMI · bleed after refilling |
| monthly | check or change the filter (watch the differential pressure) · spot-test the metering elements · pressure test and holding time, verify the limit values · check stroke-sensor pulses for plausibility · check flow values where fitted |
| quarterly | check line condition and chafing points · calibrate the sensors (pressure, flow, stroke) · optimise intervals from trend data · oil or grease analysis and release of the medium |

Why the proof counts twice in a food plant
Elsewhere, documentation serves maintenance. Here it additionally serves the HACCP concept: a lubrication point only counts as controlled when interval, quantity and failure are traceable. The weekly leak check is therefore not just upkeep — it is hazard control.
The quarterly “release of the medium” item has the same background: at every lubricant change, check again that the new product's registration category fits the zone and that it is miscible with the old fill.
What belongs in the system documentation
- medium with registration category, viscosity or NLGI class and temperature range
- target quantity per lubrication point and interval
- limit values for pressure, stroke and flow with the OK / warning / alarm stages
- responsibility and date per check
The matching metering template (PDF, German) is also available as a fillable form. Choose conservative starting values and fine-tune after one to two weeks from the trends.
