Regulations and what they mean
Most wrong decisions about a lubrication system are made before the pump is chosen: the requirement was described incompletely. An enquiry that carries these details leads to a sound proposal — and can be compared between suppliers.
| Detail | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| number of points and demand per point | determines flow and allocation — the pump follows from it, not the other way round |
| medium: oil or grease, viscosity or NLGI class | decides the system type and the pump's limits |
| temperature range at the installation site | not the hall temperature but the lowest start-up temperature |
| line lengths and cross-sections | co-determine the pressure demand |
| available energy | mains, on-board supply or compressed air |
| environment | cleaning regime and required protection grade |
| monitoring | which signal the controller expects |
The two details most often missing
The first is the lowest start-up temperature: a viscosity window applies at operating temperature, and at a cold start the medium sits far above it. The second is the thickener type of the existing grease — it decides miscibility with the old fill. Both are covered in our article on NLGI classes.
The metering template (PDF, German) carries assembly, medium, target quantity, interval, line length, sensors and limits per point — filled in, it is the enquiry and later the system documentation. The maintenance plan (PDF, German) fixes the rhythm after commissioning. Published data for narrowing down the hardware: pumps and sensor technology.
